TOMS And Doing Something That Matters

toms-logoOne of the companies at the forefront of the expanding industry of Do Gooders is TOMS. Alright, I’m late to the game when it comes to spotlighting TOMS. But not being much of a shoe shopper (as my 10-year-old Chucks can attest), I only recently stumbled across the company while Christmas shopping for my wife, Margaux (she does love her shoes). I was instantly blown away by the story behind the company. If you don’t already know, TOMS has a beautiful charitable mission called One for One. For each pair of shoes it sells, it donates a pair. Simple and helpful. What a great concept. And to be honest, it’s what inspired this blog. The day after I bought Margaux a pair of wedges (she loved them!), I dashed to the library and checked out TOMS founder Blake Mycoskie’s book, “Start Something That Matter,” and quickly pored through it. The point of the book, as its title suggests, is that companies — big or small — should not only be focused on their bottom lines, but also on bettering the world. Thanks Blake! That’s advice we wholeheartedly plan to follow at A GoodrWorld!
